What can you achieve at MI5, MI6 and GCHQ?
Surprise yourself!

This opportunity is expected to attract significant interest and may close within a short time frame, so early applications are encouraged.

GCHQ is an intelligence, cyber and security agency with a mission to keep the UK safe. We use cutting-edge technology, ingenuity and partnerships to identify, analyse and disrupt threats. Working with our intelligence partners MI5 and MI6, we protect the UK from terrorism, cyber-attacks and espionage. At GCHQ you’ll do varied and fascinating work in a supportive and inclusive environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.

This role can be based in various locations, including with the National Cyber Force (NCF) in Samlesbury. Established in 2020, the NCF operates in and through cyberspace to counter threats to the UK and its allies. While its existence is not a secret, its people are, and discretion is vital.

As an Intelligence Data Analyst at GCHQ, you’ll work right at the heart of our mission, supporting real-world events and gaining special insight into what goes on behind the news headlines. Previously our analysts have helped prevent multiple terrorist attacks in a single year, halted a major cyber-attack from North Korea, and helped strengthen Ukraine’s cyber capabilities. So, joining us means being part of something truly impactful.

In this role, working with bespoke technology you’ll gather information from different sources, including internet-connected devices and use your analytical skills to make sense of it. It’s like putting together a puzzle, with pieces scattered across the digital landscape. Sometimes, you’ll find what you’re looking for right away. Other times, you’ll have to dig deep to find out more; but that’s where the excitement lies. It’s a unique opportunity to work in a rapidly changing technological environment, where no two days are alike.

To apply, all you need is a Level 2 (GCSE-equivalent) qualification in English Language and Maths at Grade 4/C or above - it’s your curiosity, determination, and interest in new technology that’s really key here. We don’t expect you to know everything when you join us. That’s why we’ll provide you with a comprehensive training and development programme where you’ll be supported by mentors and tutors. Once this training is completed, you’ll have the option to flex your hours to suit your schedule. While you'll need to be in the office daily to work with classified materials, there will be no expectation for you to work weekends or shifts.

At GCHQ diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds. Find out more about our culture, working environment and diversity on our website.
