FAQs

What salary can I expect?

The Product Leadership Internship offers a competitive starting salary of £50,000 per year.

Where is this Product Leadership Internship based?

You'll be based at our Exeter office. If you were to continue at Sparx, there may be opportunities to head up teams in our Bristol or London offices.

Do I need a specific degree?

You need to have completed a degree before you start the internship, but we don't require a specific subject. We value attitude, curiosity and a diverse skillset far more than any particular academic background.

Is the Product Leadership Internship just for new graduates?

No. While it's great for new graduates, it is an all-round skills builder so it also suits people coming from other backgrounds like teaching, software engineering, project management, or starting something of your own. What matters most is your mindset: curiosity, pace, and a pull towards fixing real problems that matter.

What does the application process look like?

We know applying for roles can take time, so we've kept the process simple, clear and transparent.

  • Stage 1: A short written application with a small number of questions. No CV or cover letter needed. If you answer no to any of the first 5 questions, we can't progress your application.
  • Stage 2: If your application stands out, we'll invite you to record a brief video answering a couple of follow-up questions.
  • Stage 3: A virtual screening call, giving us a chance to learn more about each other and give you time to ask questions.
  • Stage 4: An in-person assessment day at our Exeter office, where you'll meet our CEO and a range of Sparx team members.
How will the 12-month plan look?

You'll be embedded in the Product team for the full placement, working across the business in three stages:

Our Product Leadership Internship is designed to adapt to the people who join us. This is how we currently expect the year to look, but rotations may change based on your strengths, feedback and the needs of the business.

  • Autumn Term (Immersion): One week in each of Engineering, Design, Insights, AI & Prototyping, Modelling, Content Design, Comms, Schools Success and Innovation, learning how each team operates and where Product connects with them.
  • Spring Term (Rotations): Six weeks each in Schools Success, Content Design, and AI & Prototyping, taking on real work and contributing to live projects.
  • Summer Term (Application): Six weeks in Innovation, before finishing with two months fully embedded in Product, applying what they’ve picked up across the year.
Can the plan change?

Yes. The programme is designed to be flexible. Things change a lot in 12 months and rotations can be adapted based on your strengths, feedback and business needs.

Is the Product Leadership Internship a guaranteed path to a permanent role at Sparx?

No, it isn't automatic. The programme has been built to set you up to move into a permanent leadership role at Sparx, but the final step depends on if you're ready and it feels right for you and Sparx. Whatever comes next, you'll leave with valuable experience, transferable skills and evidence of the impact you can make.

Do you offer visa sponsorship?

Not currently. Applicants must have existing UK work rights to be eligible for the programme.
