Inspiring science, enhancing life
Our vision is for a world that's cleaner and healthier, today and for future generations.

Today, more than 93% of the group's sales come from products and services which provide sustainability benefits through the positive impact they have on the environment, resource efficiency and human health, but that’s not enough. We have ambitious plans for growth and need talented individuals to help shape and lead us into our next century.

As the Chemistry Intern, you will work primarily in the laboratory, in close collaboration with colleagues. Your goal will be the development, testing and synthetic industrial application of chemo-catalysts for redox transformations. Your success will contribute to the Life Science Technologies business’ focus on translating the customer’s needs into a technical process.

  • Independently preparing and performing analysis (NMR, HPLC, GC) and developing analytical methods with support from the analytical team
  • Ensuring compliance with EHS standards and actively identifying opportunities for continual EHS improvements
  • Testing technology developed in house or licenced from third parties
  • Investigating a number of reaction variables to identify acceptable or best conditions for reactions to achieve clear and specific project results
  • Collating results to prepare reports for internal review by line manager

Requirements for the role:

  • Completed 2 years of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry where an Industrial Placement year is an essential requirement of the course
  • Knowledge of the techniques of synthetic organic chemistry and catalytic synthesis
  • An understanding of standard analytical techniques: NMR, GC, HPLC
  • An understanding of Organometallic synthesis
  • Active awareness of safety standards
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

How you will be rewarded:

We offer a competitive compensation and JM Elements benefits package including bonus, excellent pension contributions and 25 days' annual leave (varies for shift-based roles). Our JM Elements Benefits programme helps our employees understand and manage the JM benefits, as well as helping you focus on your overall wellbeing – for you and your family.

We use our inspiring science and technology to enhance lives. For those who are passionate about sustainable solutions and shaping our markets, we offer stretch and a wealth of diverse opportunities.
