Undertaking three secondments within two years was a real draw for me: the opportunity to experience how different companies operate within the nuclear industry and learn from them was invaluable. I believe the Nuclear Graduates programme offers a great foundation for starting your career.
Business Improvements is all about employee engagement. Helping colleagues across the organisation to weed out their frustrations and coaching them to implement meaningful solutions that solve the root cause. The most notable project I led on was reducing the maintenance period on specialist equipment so that its down time was vastly reduced: not particularly glamourous but it made a difference to the business.
I have been able to complete my APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) and my Professional Scrum Master I Certification using the funds available to me from my CPD budget.
The International Footprints trip to Sweden & Finland was a real highlight for me: learning about their respective nuclear industries in real depth was fascinating and a rare opportunity for someone in a graduate level position.
Make the most of the opportunities afforded to you by the scheme. The two years are busy and fly by. I would encourage any Nuclear Graduate to move away from home and enjoy living somewhere new, as well as undertaking secondments that will challenge them. You will hopefully look back with a real sense of accomplishment.
