Job Description

Mott MacDonald in three words
Ready for a career within Mott MacDonald?

As a Transport Planning Apprentice, you’ll be part of a collaborative team helping to plan how people travel and how transport can better connect communities, support economic growth and contribute to a more sustainable future.

From day one, you’ll combine your apprenticeship studies with hands-on experience across a diverse range of transport planning projects. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you’ll learn how transport planners use evidence, data and innovative thinking to understand challenges and develop solutions that make a positive difference to people and places.

As your knowledge and confidence grow, you could have opportunities to:

  • Support the delivery of transport planning projects across the UK, with potential opportunities to contribute to international projects.
  • Develop your skills in data collection, analysis and interpretation, understanding how evidence is used to inform transport decisions.
  • Assist with research into transport trends, policies and strategies and explore how these influence the development of towns, cities and communities.
  • Contribute to technical reports, presentations and project proposals, developing your written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work alongside colleagues from different disciplines, learning from their experience and bringing your own ideas and perspectives to the team.
  • Support engagement with clients and stakeholders, building your confidence and understanding of their needs.
  • Explore different areas of transport planning, helping you discover where your interests and strengths could take your career.
  • Develop your professional network through project work, mentoring, training and opportunities to engage with the wider transport planning profession.

Your development will be supported throughout your apprenticeship. We don’t expect you to have all the skills or technical knowledge from day one. You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and learn from the people around you, gradually taking on greater responsibility as your experience develops.

Through your studies and practical project experience, you’ll build the skills and knowledge needed for a rewarding career in transport planning. You’ll have opportunities to recognise and celebrate your progress along the way, while contributing to projects that can create more connected, inclusive and sustainable places for the future.

UK Immigration

Mott MacDonald Ltd. are not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK. This decision is as a consequence of the changes made to the Skilled Worker route by the UK Government in April 2024.

Our ethos is to develop, train and retain our apprentices and therefore we are looking for a long-term relationship with our apprentices. For this reason, we cannot accept applications from candidates who would be working under the Graduate visa route or other time-limited visas, (irrespective of visa duration), due to their temporary nature and the requirement for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route in future.

We continue to welcome applications from candidates who are eligible for alternative immigration routes in the UK, that do not require sponsorship as a Skilled Worker now or in future.
