I am a graduate process engineer in the water treatment team under the overarching Water Consultancy Division. I work on both potable water and wastewater treatment projects with experience ranging from process design to on-site lab testing.
I knew that with a larger, multi-disciplinary company such as Mott MacDonald, they could offer a vast range of project work that would satisfy my interest for the water industry and that I would be able to build a wide and diverse network of people, both within and outside of my industry.
Mott MacDonald then specifically caught my eye as a consultancy that focused on upholding their values and commitment to EDI. I also noticed a focus on the wellbeing of their employees and the plethora of social and sport events that I knew would help me build a community within the company.
As much as I enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work system, working from both home and the office, I look forward to catching up over a coffee or lunch with my team and friends whenever I come into the office. I also look forward to progressing with the wide variety of projects I am currently working on, enjoying expanding my technical knowledge and working with new teams and people. Finally, I look forward to organising activities and events with my friends for after work such as badminton and rock-climbing classes.
My main advice would be to do research on Mott MacDonald, both on recent projects they have worked on and on the values of the company. It is good to show genuine interest in the company but it will also help to ensure that your values and ethics align with ours before committing to the application.
Each year, Mott MacDonald host a Sports Day where every office across the UK, Ireland and some parts of Europe are invited to compete against each other in a big sports day. I am excited to attend my second one and enjoy plenty of sports, eating/drinking and dressing up for the awards ceremony!
Walks and café dates! Glasgow is especially blessed with good brunch spots and living in Scotland means you’re only a bus/drive away from a beautiful walk.
