Graduate - Financial Risk

Finance, Economics, Accounting, Maths, Analytics.

What does this team do?

Our Financial Risk teams help organisations manage risk, meet regulatory requirements and prepare for what’s next in a complex, fast-changing world. Financial Risk comprises four teams. Please note that our Traded and Quantitative Risk Graduate Programme is advertised separately, as it’s designed for candidates with a STEM or quantitative background. If that matches your experience and interests, please apply for that role instead.

Experience Deloitte through our people’s eyes
Deloitte are one of the Big Four. We're one of the largest network services in the world.

Here’s an overview of the three teams you could join within Financial Risk and the work each one does:

Credit, Capital and Structuring

We help banks and building societies stay on the right side of the rules. Regulations change often, so we guide our clients through those changes and check they're doing everything correctly. We also work alongside their in-house review teams to spot any gaps. Sometimes a bank needs a licence to do certain things or need help with a big deal. We keep banks safe, legal and ready for what's next.

Front Office, Treasury and Reporting

Banks and other financial institutions rely on effective pricing, reporting and front-office operations. We help these areas perform more efficiently by strengthening risk management, improving day-to-day processes and supporting regulatory compliance. For example, we help our clients build better systems for pricing deals, managing the risk of loans and reporting on how much cash and capital they hold. We also help them keep tight control over their trading.

Credit Risk Measurement

When a bank lends money, there's always a chance it won't get paid back. That chance is called credit risk, and it's what this team focuses on. We help our clients understand and manage that risk. Credit is our main focus, but we know plenty about other risks too. That includes climate-related risk, which looks at how regulations around sustainability reporting can impact financial organisations.

What kind of work will I do?

Working in Financial Risk you will gain exposure across the risk and regulatory landscape, including Credit, Liquidity, Market, Counterparty, Model and Climate risk, as well as capital management and structural reform activities.

We engage with clients directly on projects, from implementing large-scale risk management and modelling frameworks across the financial risk lifecycle, to developing strategic legal restructuring programmes. You’ll gain invaluable client-facing experience every day, while also being able to work on a wide range of different topics.

Our clients range from global and boutique banks to insurers and investment managers. You’ll collaborate with Deloitte colleagues and clients across the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and other European countries, helping you build a broad international network. You may also contribute to projects delivered alongside Deloitte member firms across Europe.

We also have a growing portfolio of solutions and other services that use artificial intelligence, robotics, and digitisation to do more for less, and more accurately. This means you will be able to get involved with our most innovative propositions and experience first-hand how Deloitte is at the forefront of change in the financial risk.

Where will I work?

At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working. If you’re in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events. Please note your final assessment and induction will also be in-person, to give you the opportunity to network and build relationships.

All our workspaces are accessible, however, if you require further flexibility due to a health condition or caring responsibilities, please discuss this with our team.

What skills and academic qualifications do I need?

You’ll need to have obtained or be studying towards a minimum 2:1 in any STEM degree discipline and have graduated by September 2027 for the Autumn 2027 intake.

How will I develop?

An important part of your personal development is ensuring you take advantage of the opportunities offered at Deloitte to enhance both your technical and soft skills. For Graduates, this may include internal courses covering a variety of subjects such as an introduction to banking and capital management and improving presentation skills, as well as formal credentials such as the Financial Risk Management (FRM) qualification. You will be provided support throughout the Graduate programme and will be allocated your own personal Buddy and Coach.

Deadlines

We recommend getting your application in as soon as possible. Please note, some of our roles may close before the deadline if we experience high demand.

  • Assessment deadlines: Once you’ve applied for this role, you’ll receive an email from our recruitment team outlining the next steps alongside any relevant deadlines for you to complete the additional stages of our process. We operate a strict one application per year policy across our Early Careers opportunities. We recommend only submitting an application for a role that you feel is right for you.

Visa Sponsorship

We accept applications from candidates who are currently on student visas for this role. We cannot accept applications from candidates who have previously spent time on a Skilled Worker or Graduate visa. If successful to offer, you must stay on your student visa until our immigration team contacts you c.3 months before start date.
