Graduate - Government & Infrastructure

Finance, Economics, Accounting, Analytics, Business.

What does this team do?

We’re more involved in our client’s affairs than ever before, providing advice and services far beyond finances. In the Government & Infrastructure team we advise government and private sector clients throughout all their commercial processes. For example, procurement of new companies or negotiation of big contracts between the public and private sector.

What surprised our people about Deloitte?
"I think the main misconception that a lot of people have with any Big Four accounting firms is that it's going to be very corporate and very top-heavy."

Our team has significant experience of advising government and the organisations it works with on a wide range of topics. You’ll have the opportunity to work on some of the largest and most important public sector investment projects in the UK, which have a big impact on the economy.

What kind of work will I do?

In any given month, our graduates work on a wide range of impactful projects. As an example, some of our recent projects have included:

  • Supporting a central government department with commercial or financial analysis to enable them to assess the suitability of applicants for government grant funding
  • Helping a client design a scheme to use public funding to support the growth of a new industry/sector
  • Supporting a major football club with financial analysis to support the decision-making in respect of the infrastructure investment needed to decarbonise their campus
  • Working with private sector clients looking to bid into government contracts (or with public sector clients assessing bidders)
  • Drafting a business case to help a public sector client make the case for a major programme
  • Assisting a public sector client to procure a renewable energy contract
  • Supporting a major utility in the acquisition of a renewable energy developer

Where will I work?

At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working.

If you’re in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events. Please note your final assessment and induction will also be in-person, to give you the opportunity to network and build relationships.

All our workspaces are accessible, however, if you require further flexibility due to a health condition or caring responsibilities, please discuss this with our team.

What skills and academic qualifications do I need?

You’ll need to have obtained or be studying towards a minimum 2:1 in any STEM degree discipline and have graduated by September 2027 for the Autumn 2027 intake.

Please note that to apply for this role you must be willing and eligible to apply for and obtain UK Security Check clearance, unless you already hold valid clearance.

How will I develop?

Joining the Government & Infrastructure Advisory team will give you a chance to develop as a financial and commercial advisor, while learning about the public and private sector. You’ll work with experienced professionals on projects involving government agencies and infrastructure and gain expertise in commercial and procurement activity. You’ll also learn the foundations of funding and financing, and develop corporate finance skills that will support your clients.

Joining G&I, you will undertake the CFAB qualification before continuing onto either the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst qualification) or CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) to support relevant work in the team.

Deadlines

We recommend getting your application in as soon as possible. Please note, some of our roles may close before the deadline if we experience high demand.

  • Assessment deadlines: Once you’ve applied for this role, you’ll receive an email from our recruitment team outlining the next steps alongside any relevant deadlines for you to complete the additional stages of our process. We operate a strict one application per year policy across our Early Careers opportunities. We recommend only submitting an application for a role that you feel is right for you.

Visa Sponsorship

Due to the Security Clearance requirement for this role, please note that we’re unable to progress applications from candidates on a Student Visa or those who do not hold complete right to work in the UK.
