Where you'll be working

SP Energy Networks keeps the electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout Central and Southern Scotland, North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire, and North Shropshire. The energy landscape is changing rapidly as the way our customers and communities generate, consume, and interact with energy evolves. Our role is to decarbonise our network through technology and innovation and to facilitate the UK's journey to Net Zero through electrification. 

By analysing the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of our power systems, this crucial work will help future-proof our infrastructure and deliver a quality network for the homes and businesses within our licence area.   

What you'll be doing

Working alongside a team of skilled engineers, you'll working at the forefront of our business managing customer requests for new connections such as renewable energy, supporting the customer in their application and analyse the network to determine the best point of connection to the existing system. 

You’ll play a key role in driving improvements and upgrades to our network, ensuring that the electrical infrastructure remains effective and relevant by completing network assessments and drawing design plans for the placement of the new assets whilst seeking new ways to enhance and optimise the infrastructure on an ongoing basis.  

As part of this role, you can expect to:  

• Perform power system studies and analyse the performance of our power system networks 
• Identify opportunities for renewable energy integration, grid modernisation, and energy efficiency improvement 
• Be involved in electrical infrastructure projects, from inception to completion including planning, design, commissioning, testing and operation) 
• Assist in preparing engineering calculations, drawings, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation 
• Participate in site inspections, audits, and commissioning activities 
• Be trained in commercial and cost management skills to produce a fully comprehensive quotation for works 
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company procedures 

What you'll bring

Effective communication within the workplace is crucial as you will work with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery. We also welcome knowledge of design and technical drawing software; these skills will enable you to contribute effectively to the team and make a positive impact on projects. 

You'll need: 

• An Honours Degree (or equivalent) at a minimum of 2:2 (or equivalent) in Power Systems, Electrical, and Electronic Engineering, or similar. 
• A valid UK Driving licence (or working towards obtaining one) 
• Good understanding of electrical engineering principles including simulation and awareness of relevant software tools 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality  
• Proactive and creative approach to problem-solving 
• Excellent communication and report-writing abilities 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
