Where you'll be working

SP Energy Networks keeps the electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout Central and Southern Scotland, North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire, and North Shropshire. The energy landscape is changing rapidly as the way our customers and communities generate, consume, and interact with energy evolves. Our role is to decarbonise our network through technology and innovation and to facilitate the UK's journey to Net Zero through electrification. 

Your programme will be based within our SP Transmission Services business.  

What you'll be doing

As an Environmental Graduate, you will help keep our Environmental Management System running smoothly in accordance with the ISO 14001 certification that SPEN hold. Your role will involve supporting project teams through the project lifecycle, ensuring that environmental risks to delivery are minimised and the project complies with the necessary environmental regulations in line with cost and programme.  

Working closely with project teams to organise environmental surveys and compile environmental documents for site activities, ensuring that everything is organised and compliant. Your responsibilities will also include monitoring and reporting on site activities via site inspections, tracking any actions raised to closure, and identifying opportunities for improvement in our practices. 

You will be responsible for liaising with various internal and external stakeholders on environmental matters, this could be other departments within the SPEN business or external regulators. Additionally, you will be involved in the delivery of the wider sustainability commitments included in the business plan which include targets around waste, materials, and biodiversity. 

Your role will involve: 

• Supporting environmental surveys and documentation for site activities, and ensuring all materials are accurate and compliant 
• Monitor site activities and report on compliance  
• Liaise with internal teams and external regulators on environmental matters, building effective relationships across the business 
• Contribute to sustainability goals around waste, biodiversity, and materials 
• Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in environmental practices and procedures 
• Tracking actions raised during inspections through to closure, ensuring timely resolution 

What you'll bring

We're looking for graduates who are passionate about environmental issues and ready to make a real difference. You will have:  

• Honours Degree at a minimum of 2:2 (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Management, Geosciences, or similar  
• Genuine passion for sustainability, climate action, and environmental protection 
• Strong methodical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends 
• Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders 
• A full UK driving licence (or working towards obtaining one) 
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement 
• Ability to work effectively both on your own and as part of a team 
• Organisational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
