"I have learnt that there is far more to life than what you learn at university!"
Diageo has given me the opportunity to work in a range of locations, from a small seaside town in Scotland to the busy city centre of Budapest. I love the diversity of roles that you get to experience on the Supply Graduate Scheme, it has helped me develop so much, both professionally and personally.
I love being able to talk to people all over the world, every day I am speaking to people in Africa, Europe and America. It is great to be able to continue to use the technical skills you developed in your degree whilst rapidly developing your communication skills and also learning more about cultures all over the world.
You hear the words “diversity and inclusion” a lot, but at Diageo they are more than just words, it how the business operates. From day one I felt that I could be my true self and my differences weren’t something to be ashamed off or hidden, they were actually the thing that makes me unique. People come first in the company, and the atmosphere is one of inclusion and celebration of the things that make us different.
I have learnt that there is far more to life than what you learn at university! Although I do still get to use the things that I learnt in my engineering degree, I would say that people skills are far more important than what you studied. I have realised that this is something that I enjoy, solving a maths problem in class is very one dimensional, but solving a problem at work is far more rewarding when you get to work with people and consider a range of different impacts and scenarios.
