Why did you choose to apply to a graduate role at Diageo?

I chose to apply to Diageo because of its strong reputation for excellent brands, diverse global teams, and collaborative company culture. In particular, working within D&T (Digital and Technology) is exciting as you have an opportunity to shape the future of Diageo and work in an innovative, fast-paced environment. The graduate scheme also benefits from the opportunity to relocate internationally, an experience that I believe will broaden my network and skillset.  

What do you wish you knew when you were applying to Diageo? 

Joining a new city and company can be daunting, but the supportive structure of the scheme means that the transition was smooth, and easier than anticipated!

Tell us about your experience as a graduate with Diageo? – what kind of support is offered, what is the culture like, etc.

Upon starting your role at Diageo, you are partnered with a career mentor, graduate buddy, line manager, and cohort of other graduates. The support network and induction sessions within the first few weeks equip you with the tools and direction to begin your career at Diageo and they can inspire you to build your global network. 

Tell us about your current graduate role with Diageo? What’s the most exciting thing about it?

The D&T graduate scheme is designed to empower graduates with a breadth of experience across D&T functions and geographies. I'm currently on my first rotation, working as a Change Management Executive within D&T. The global nature of D&T means I get to contribute to exciting technology implementations around the world, such as delivering eB2B platform to new international markets. Bringing such innovative solutions to market is fast-paced and challenging but the people have been supportive and encouraging throughout. 

What skills/knowledge did you learn at university that you are now implementing in role? 

Coming from a Natural Sciences degree, the most important transferrable skills for my role have been:

• Analytical - my degree background equipped me with an ability to understand and evaluate data. This has been useful for my role within D&T, as Diageo strives to make data-driven decisions. 
• Communication - On the graduate scheme you will have the opportunity to contribute to global projects and communicate with stakeholders all around the world. Being able to listen to others in your team and communicate effectively is essential for the team success.
• Adaptable - Delivering digital solutions can be enhanced by taking an agile approach. The ability to work iteratively and collaboratively has enabled me to adapt to the fast-paced digital environment.

Have passion - The Digital and Technology space is such an exciting place to build your career, as you have an opportunity to shape the future of the Diageo. Diageo is built upon the heritage of innovative brands, but the future of Diageo is enabled by digital solutions… so having a passion for innovation will help you succeed!
