Environmental Engineering Placement, (Pembroke Power Station) 2020

The first few months of my Environmental Engineering Year in Industry placement at Pembroke Power Station have demonstrated to me the level of detail and effort taken by the station to reduce its impact on the surrounding environment. I have been involved in auditing the Environmental Management System of Pembroke Power Station along with other areas of the Company. This allowed me to directly question and suggest improvements to the current systems in place, proving that you can have a significant impact on the company as a placement student.

I have been impressed by the range of roles that have been assigned to me; a daily task which I have taken on is monitoring the emissions of the power station. This is a very interesting job which allows you to use advanced software and your problem solving skills to identify the cause of fluctuations in the emissions from the station. I have been involved in starting a number of exciting projects regarding safety on site and day to day plant operations, which in time should have a very positive impact on the workings of the site. I have thoroughly enjoyed the start of my placement and am very excited to continue to develop as an engineer throughout the rest of the year.
