We are a university society made of a passionate collection of students with an interest in mathematics. Maybe your goal is to meet other students with the same interests, attend entertaining social events and captivating departmental maths-themed talks or grow your employability prospects, anyone is welcome to join!
MathSoc hosts a range of social events, including meet & greets, fun quizzes, pub crawls, game nights, a yearly MathSoc & PhySoc Ball for all mathematics and physics students to enjoy and many more collaborations with other STEM and non-STEM societies!
We also offer academic events at Surrey for Mathematics, such as our 'Amazing Maths Talks' by experts in their fields, such as "Mathematics of sleep: why do we sleep so late?" by Professor Anne Skeldon and "New physics in the days of Oppenheimer" by Professor Alessandro Torrielli.
We strive to form a strong community within Surrey for students studying, or with an interest in, mathematics and bring students the best prospects for learning and career development.
We've undergone a lot of development this year, throwing more frequent events, advertising to our students more often and we're currently planning a new look for our society...
With help from our student union, we're able to book out seminar rooms and computer labs for exam preparation, so our students are prepared for any module, including computing ones.
This year we've collaborated with more societies than ever before, throwing STEM society events between all the STEM societies, a Game Night with Economics and Finance Society. And this is just the beginning of deeper and stronger links between our departmental societies at Surrey.
Events for our members, whether you're interested in actuarial science, finance, research, technology or anything more, we're open to bringing our members entralling career talks on campus with industry specialists.
We have many more projects we're working on, but we wouldn't want to ruin the surprise...
Hosted by the department, we present interesting Maths talks throughout many Fridays of each semester, on topics from every corner of the mathematical universe thanks to our amazing lecturers.
An event early in each semester to welcome new students and returning students alike to the University of Surrey's MathSoc, ready for an exciting academic year ahead.
Possibly our most popular social events, our quizzes will take you on an adventure through maths, general knowledge, pop culture
A new type of event we're excited to host in lecture theatres on campus, the films we watch can be from any genre, Maths-related or not, for students to enjoy.
An exciting end of year event our students look forward to. A night of enjoyment for members to celebrate and socialise with other students in Mathematics and Physics, dining and dancing in style.
