Plant Integrity Placement, 2020

After a turbulent couple of months during the uncertainty surrounding the COVID pandemic the one constant remained to be the continuous development and broadening of my knowledge and skills during my placement with RWE.

After only three months working in both the Pressure Systems and Steam Turbine and Monitoring groups I already feel like a valued member of both teams having worked on a variety of projects. Remote working, despite the initial transition period, has been extremely successful; I have joined meetings across the country, enjoyed regular virtual coffee breaks to socialise with colleagues and had access to instant support at the click of a button. I also have had the opportunity to go into the office to take part in vital group meetings and work collaboratively, the precautionary measures in the office ensure all of our safety. The added benefit of occasional collaboration in the office enriches my overall understanding and gives me insight into the whole office experience.

I feel I have adapted well into the working environment and contributed greatly to the projects I have been working on. One project that particularly captured my interest was the Life Cycle analysis of a Steam Turbine Rotor, the results from my project will be used by other colleagues in the future. I have developed a plethora of skills, from professionalism to high level communication, all of which will provide the building blocks required to build my career.
