This role would ideally suit a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience and background in designing & developing products for the Defence or other Industries/ Markets requiring ruggedised Hardware. Responsible for designing high end thermal solutions for rugged single board computers, other electronic devices and systems to be used in conduction and convection cooled environments.

Working within a team supporting New Product Introduction Projects
Design of leading-edge Mechanical components and Thermal Solutions for Rugged Electronic assemblies and Systems
Perform Thermal & Structural analysis on designs
Supporting Design and Project milestone Reviews to provide input and implement feedback into design.
Working closely with Electronic hardware & manufacturing teams to ensure design is optimised
Understanding DFM and a Good Understanding and appreciation of Machining, Lean Manufacturing and Assembly processes to feed back into the design for ‘Right First Time’ and to produce an efficient manufacturing package.
Perform all aspects of mechanical development life cycle – from requirements capture through to production release.
Working as a Team Member you will be empowered to promote and communicate best practice.
Work to required ISO9001/ AS9100 Rev D quality standards, adhering to agreed processes and procedures
Generate documentation and reports
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (processes, tools, project management)
Liaise with other Hardware/ Software Design Assurance & Manufacturing teams
Research, test and qualify thermal materials
Develop new Thermal/ Mechanical testing qualification methods
Keep abreast of Latest Thermal/ Mechanical developments in the Industry
Carrying out investigations and testing for RCCA
Assist Design/Production/QA where required to resolve issues
Undertake any other activity as reasonably requested by management
The candidate will:
Have Good knowledge of Solidworks 3d CAD software
Be able to complete Structural FEA and Thermal Simulation with the ability to assimilate the detail and implement into the design.
Be a Mechanical graduate with a minimum of 2:1 Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and experience in Thermal & Stress analysis
Have a broad knowledge of various methods of manufacture such as casting, machining, extruding etc.
Appreciation and Understanding of Lean Methodologies
Have strong problem-solving abilities
Have excellent organisational and communication skills
Be a good team player and support the mechanical and project teams where appropriate
