I joined OPmobility as a Graduate EPM. In my first serious engineering job, in a global organisation as post graduate - I really was not sure what to expect. I knew that PO UK’s main customer was Jaguar Land Rover and the products they produced were bumpers and tailgates, but exactly how I would be exposed to the technical disciplines involved - I was about to discover. I was also keen for international exposure and this has been met with my recent secondment to Chattanooga, USA to work on a Volkswagen program, this also involved a lot of design and development work with the customer in Wolfsburg, Germany.
The people you are surrounded by, not only in terms of technical knowledge and understanding but also their attitude to the job in hand and willingness to help where they can. For a multinational company, it still has a family feel.
Relatively speaking it is early days in terms of my engineering career. It has been a very steep learning curve and I am sure there is more to come. In terms of the future I would like to develop my skill set further (both technically and managerially) and grow my career within the company.
I can only speak from my limited experience of coming from higher education into PO. However I think the best thing I could say is stick at it and if you do not know or understand something, ask those around you, everyone is incredibly helpful and generally willing to assist.
