Graduate Civil Engineer - Newbridge (Ireland)

Your main purpose is:

To assist in the providing the Project with accurate, informed interpretation of the specified Project Technical Requirements. Providing support to the Project management and site team on all matters technical.
Providing some management support to the site manager.

Key responsibilities & duties: 

  •  Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
  •  Minimises environmental disturbance during construction works.
  •  Deliver Toolbox Talks.
  • Where required supervision of junior engineers.
  • Ensure that sufficient and full information is available on drawings and sketches to set out the works in accordance with the programme and sequence of operations.
  • Communicate with foremen and operative.
  • Ensure current drawings are being used.
  • Ensure full understanding of information provided.
  • Ensure the compliance of method statements.
  • Provide accurate and clear setting out for works before work is programmed to commence, allowing time for independent checking where required.
  • Check the works during progress and on completion to ensure that the works has been constructed to the setting-out information provides. Report any non-conformance to the Engineer / Site Manager.
  • Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work related discussions with client / designer / project team.
  • Carry out site measures for the control and ordering of materials.
  • Carry out the duties of equipment engineers and maintain a log of all equipment on site, ensuring that all transfers / off hires are properly documented.
  • Ensure the site diary is accurately maintained noting against each record the date, location and serial number of equipment used.
  •  Minimises environmental disturbance during construction works.
  • Ensure all materials on site are suitable, stored in line with manufacturer’s recommendations, current working practice, contract specification or project requirements.

Personal qualities / attributes: 

  •  Good Communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Confident in communicating to site staff.
  • Ability to take ownership of workload and exercise good judgement of when to escalate issues to management.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage others whilst taking the lead.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving, good analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to relate well to others and create good working relationships.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Construction Experience.
  • GPS Surveying.
  • IT Skills.
  • PTS Trained.
  • Degree qualified.
  • Desire to work towards Member of a professional Institution (e.g. TMICE,MICE, MIStructE, MCIHT, MIGEM, MCIOB, MCIAT, RIBA. CSCS Card - Green / Gold.
  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Full valid UK driving license.
  • CDM Co-ordinator course.
  • Environmental Awareness and Management.
