Would you like an opportunity to work with world-class R&D talent?

As MediaTek’s successful intern you will work as part of an outstanding research team that is responsible for driving innovation in advanced cellular wireless communication systems, such as the definition of new communication standards within 3GPP.

Working at MediaTek UK - Cambridge Office, England

Hear from current MediaTek employees about work life at the MediaTek Cambridge (UK) office.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to new cellular communication standards such as 5G/Beyond-5G/6G, allowing you to understand how these new communication standards are derived and how these translate in the design and implementation of the devices used by consumers to exchange information over these wireless links.

Using a combination of theoretical analysis and software simulations, you will be involved in the modelling of their performance at the system level as well as at the user device level. This is also a great opportunity to develop your research and programming/scripting proficiency and apply these skills to the development of complex simulation environments.

Currently, there are multiple open positions on different projects that can be offered for the successful candidates.

Key responsibilities:

  • To take part in research and development of new ideas for advanced cellular communication systems supported by evidence-based research.
  • To extend the simulation source code for the link-layer and/or system-level simulation environments to validate expected performance for new concepts in cutting-edge wireless technology.
  • To take part into technical contribution drafting for submission to 3GPP RAN1/2/4 working groups.

Desirable experience and knowledge:

  • Familiarity with any wireless communication system, such as 3GPP 5G NR/LTE, IEEE 802.11 systems.
  • Good English skills, both written and spoken.
  • Involvement in link-level simulation (LLS) and/or system-level simulation (SLS)
  • Programming experience: ideally in C/C++ and Python languages.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Currently enrolled or completed a Master/PhD study in the related fields.

The placement will begin in 2023 and we can be flexible about the start date. The length of the internship will need to be 6 to 12 months long.

This internship will be at our Cambourne, Cambridgeshire office, based 9 miles outside Cambridge city centre (with frequent direct bus services). Cambridge is also conveniently located within one hour from Central London, four main London airports and The Eurostar.
