At Greencore, we believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity when thinking about the next steps in their career. We’ve designed this section to help you every step of the way, from preparing your application, the recruitment process and hints and tips!

Online Application

The first step in our recruitment process is the online application. To be considered for one of our Early Careers Programmes, you’ll need to complete this step.

Start by filling out our online application form, where you’ll provide your personal details and answer questions about your skills, experiences, and motivations for applying.

Telephone Interview

If your application stands out, our Early Careers team will invite you to a telephone interview!

During this conversation, we’ll provide you with more details about the programme you’ve applied for, including what to expect and logistics of the programme. We’ll also ask you a few interview questions about your motivations for applying and your aspirations for the future.

This is your chance to showcase your enthusiasm and ask any questions you might have about the programme or the recruitment process.

Assessment Centre

If you successfully pass the telephone interview, our Early Careers team will invite you to participate in an Online Virtual Assessment Centre. This is an exciting opportunity for us to learn more about you and for you to gain deeper insights into life at Greencore.

Our assessment centre would typically include:

• Welcome and Introduction to Greencore: Learn about who we are, our values, and what makes Greencore a great place to grow your career.
• One-to-One Interview: Engage in a structured interview with one of our assessors, where we’ll explore your motivations, skills, and suitability for the programme.
• Individual Presentation: You’ll be asked to deliver a short presentation on a given topic to showcase your potential, creativity, and interests.

We’ll provide clear instructions and guidance before the assessment center to ensure you feel prepared and confident.

Second stage assessment

If you stand out and impress us at the Assessment Centre, you’ll be invited to a Second Stage Assessment. A member of the Early Careers team will contact you to provide feedback from the Assessment Centre and discuss the next steps.

This stage is designed to give us a deeper understanding of your potential, while giving you the opportunity to learn more about us.

The format of the Second Stage Assessment may vary depending on the programme you’ve applied for, but it typically takes place at either the site you’re applying to or one of our central Greencore locations.

Here’s what you can expect:

• A Site Tour: Get a behind the scenes look at where you could be working, giving you a real feel for the environment and culture.
• Meet and Greets with the Team: An opportunity to connect with the wider team, ask questions, and understand more about the role and our way of working.
• An Informal Interview: A relaxed conversation to learn more about you, your interests, and how you align with the role and our values.
• A Group Exercise (for Placement & Graduate schemes only): Collaborate with other candidates in a task designed to assess teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.

This stage is as much for you as it is for us, so come prepared to ask questions and make the most of the experience!

Offer and Next Steps

If you’re successful at the Second Stage Assessment, we’ll be delighted to make you an offer! A member of the Early Careers team will call you to provide feedback and discuss the details of your offer.

Please note, your offer may be conditional depending on the requirements of the programme, such as waiting for your GCSE or A-level results.

If the programme you’ve applied for includes an apprenticeship, we’ll connect you with the training provider where they will start their interview process and ensure a smooth transition.

Between receiving your offer and joining us, we’ll stay in regular contact to keep you informed and supported. You’ll officially join us at the end of August for Early Careers Week—an exciting event that brings together all our Early Careers colleagues. It’s a great opportunity to settle into the business, meet your peers, and learn more about your programme.

Hints and Tips

• Review the job advert thoroughly to ensure you understand the role and expectations.
• Familiarise yourself with the work environment (details are available in the job advert).
• Practice answering competency-based interview questions. These often start with ‘Tell me about a time when…’ and focus on your qualities, motivations and aspirations.
• Use of AI tools – while tools like Chat GPT can help you structure interview responses, presentations or generate ideas, make sure your answers reflect your own thoughts, experiences, and authentic voice.
• Be yourself – we’re keen to get to know the real you and understand what makes you stand out!
