Salisha Roberts

Senior Cost Manager, Manchester

I’m currently providing commercial support to my client in delivering its capital programme. I ensure that the client's position is always protected when giving advice or administering their contracts. I’m proactive in assisting them in delivering their works, whether it be building or maintaining their assets.

After gaining my degrees in the UK, I worked with a small construction firm to gain some experience and shortly after applied to Turner & Townsend's Graduate Scheme. Fast forward nearly eight years and I've been able to work on some fantastic projects in London and Manchester while being promoted within the company. I was also able to gain my chartered surveying status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors while working on one of the largest projects in London at the time.

Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?

Working on the Tottenham Court Road Station Upgrade project. I'm always proud when I visit London and go through that station and can see what I was involved in. I’m most proud of the fact that I've been involved in a project that is currently visited and used by millions of people from all over the world. Hopefully one day my children and grandchildren will be able to visit and know that I have contributed to the delivery in some way.

Do you have any specialist skills or experience?

I’ve been involved in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion within Turner & Townsend, ever since Kate Corrigan started a group, which evolved into 'Addressing the Gender Balance' within the London office.

What's your typical day?

As I am seconded to the client’s office, this involves a drive on the M60 in rush hour and then a mandatory cup of tea. I usually check my calendar for the day ahead and look at my 'to do list'. In my current commission I’m currently working on four projects so must always be ready to field commercial questions when they pop up. Each day is different and some days I can spend all day attending various project meetings and others I have to myself, catching up on my growing list of actions. The day usually ends with that same journey on the M60 during rush hour…again.
