Case Study - Asset Management  

Xpedite were contracted by CalMac Ferries Ltd (CFL) to carry out full fleet asset management, producing a configured asset structure, spare parts, and maintenance register.

The project intent was to support CalMac Ferries Ltd (CFL) in generating concise registers and master records that will facilitate the generation and delivery of the right maintenance at the right interval supported by the correct ILS artefacts within their proposed Maintenance Management System (MMS).

The Project

The project intent was to support CalMac Ferries Ltd (CFL) in generating concise registers and master records that will facilitate the generation and delivery of the right maintenance at the right interval supported by the correct ILS artefacts within their proposed MMS. This will be achieved by the intelligent manipulation and management of data supported by time-served engineering experience and knowledge. Xpedite will utilise their experience of having created and managed many MMS systems (including UMMS, AMOS and Hardcat), to ensure the end user requirement.

The approach was to generate a sustainable maintenance programme linked with fast and effective defect rectification to play a key role in the assets availability, as will the correct identification, standardising and reporting of equipment and assets in a central accessible database.

Challenges

A common challenge with engineers who operate on multi class vessels especially in time pressured environments is identifying the correct spare parts to conduct maintenance and defect rectification. Being able to quickly access the correct information to identify the right maintenance, to be done at the right time and the spare parts required in a timely manner is key to increasing and optimising the fleet’s availability to the customer.

An engineer armed with a system allowing fast access to accurate information has proven to significantly reduce both equipment downtime and repair costs through efficient maintenance, defect analysis and spares identification.

Case Study - criticality analysis for a food and beverage manufacturer  

The Project

Xpedite was tasked with producing a unique maintenance schedule and accurate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for a complete production line with one of the factories.

The project was conducted using a lean criticality analysis beginning in the research phase with an investigative visit to the site itself and acquiring the relevant technical documentation in order to accurately predict and manage all possible failure modes. Consultants with many years of experience in the area systematically analysed the entire line and gradually built the bespoke maintenance solution. With the maintenance approved, Xpedite then developed the detailed SOPs instructing in the optimal way to complete this maintenance and the successful delivery served to cut costs, reduce downtime and free up labour.

Moving forward, Xpedite is being contracted for similar jobs around the UK and Europe in increasing frequency and continues to provide tailor-made maintenance solutions that meet the demands of the customer.

In this Case Study

Xpedite delivered a bespoke maintenance solution with accompanying SOPs for a production line in a snack and beverage factory based in England.

Xpedite’s Approach

There is a pressure to meet ever increasing safety expectations, environmental legislation and financial objectives. A significant part of any evaluation strategy can be to review the maintenance requirements for assets, systems or entire organisations.

There are many processes available within industry to facilitate such a review. The key is to find a process that meets an organisation’s needs. Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) is one such process that can be used to analyse assets and systems. The result is a proactive, safe, cost-effective and defensible maintenance strategy with a robust auditable trail that can prove extremely beneficial through-life when incorporated within a Maintenance Management System (MMS). The efficient derivation and management of maintenance could improve machine performance through best practice and maximise machinery efficiency.

Xpedite employs its core service of RCM to generate viable proactive maintenance strategies. Customers are then supported through life by offering innovative and valued solutions to manage maintenance, logistical and other supportability issues.

Case Study - RCM for the ASTUTE Class submarines  

Xpedite GOC Ltd recently successfully delivered RCM for ASTUTE Class submarines - the largest, most advanced and most complex vessel of its kind ever operated by the Royal Navy.

Xpedite was contracted by the MoD to support the prime contractor in delivery of the whole boat maintenance strategy by applying RCM principles in accordance with Def Stan 02-45. Effective project management and drawing on lessons learnt ensured the delivery of a safe, practical and cost-effective maintenance solution.

Xpedite is a MoD approved supplier of RCM consultancy and facilitation. We have vast experience of contract facilitation and Through Life Management of RCM databases. Xpedite was selected as the service provider to the prime contractor due to our specialist knowledge in RCM, Submarine SQEP and long term relationship with the MoD RCM Group.

Tasking has also been extended to help manage the Integrated UMMS (Unit Maintenance Management System) Environment under contract with Submarine in-service support. Through life activities include management of the data, quality assurance and the grouping and scheduling of maintenance within the maintenance management system.
