What projects have you worked on since starting your placement with GRAHAM?

“I started my placement at the South Bank Quay project in Middlesbrough, working as part of the marine site team.

It was a really interesting role, as I was involved with the installation of the marine furniture and sheet pile repairs, working alongside a team of divers, managing concrete pours.

Since moving to Aurs Road, Glasgow I have been working closely with the structures team, controlling the excavation for the promenade wall, monitoring slope stability and testing materials.”

How has your involvement in projects contributed to your skill development and professional growth?

“Having the opportunity to work on-site has been a great experience and invaluable - reinforcing the theoretical knowledge, providing a deeper understanding of the concepts learned at University. I have enjoyed working alongside highly qualified and experienced colleagues, being able to tap into their knowledge enhancing my understanding even further.”

Have you found that your time at GRAHAM has provided you with a competitive edge in terms of future career opportunities, and if so, how?

“I have not been treated as a student here to spectate, I have been given the opportunity to get fully immersed into the project being treated the same as any site engineer. Learning through the hands-on work and earning more responsibility as I’ve progressed through my placement allows me to be ready for the role as soon as I graduate.

What aspects of your placement have been most rewarding, and how would you encourage prospective students to consider this opportunity for their professional development?

“For me, it’s through my efforts being recognised, as I continually try to develop and understand my role. I’ve been allowed to be entrusted with more responsibilities which has continually allowed me to progress and develop.”
