About The Role

We are looking to strengthen our Engineering and Sites team with a Civil Engineer Apprentice based within the Anglian Water Region.

As a Civil Engineer Degree Level Apprentice you will become a part of the Engineering and Site teams, where we will make it our ambition to prepare you for a successful and rewarding career in Civil Engineering by providing mentoring and exposure to projects alongside your studying. 
 
In order to learn aspects of design and site operations you will be rotated around the business, across the Anglian water region. This programme will be agreed with your line manager when you start. The rotational nature of the programme will give you great exposure to the exciting portfolio of activities that we do across the @one Alliance. This will make you a well rounded engineer and help you achieve your qualifications.

Alongside our experienced engineers and construction professionals, you learn the following:

  • Conduct engineering measurements, checks, inspections and tests to ensure quality compliance
  • Contribute to documenting plans, programmes, method statements and risk assessments
  • Develop practical understanding of the importance of health and safety and the environmental requirements involved in civil engineering
  • Understand and apply industry specifications, codes, standards and guidance
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of Geotechnical Design processes
  • Participate in site inductions, morning briefings & toolbox talks
  • Interpret and analyse of information including analysis of data, producing models, calculations, reports and drawings
  • Use digital solutions to solve technical problems
  • Identify and manage risk both in a project setting and during the design process
  • Contribute to sustainable engineering solutions
  • Conduct regular safety tours
  • Maintain accurate records

About You

Qualifications required to apply:

  • Essential – You meet the entry requirements of our training provider ( Anglia Ruskin University – Peterborough ), which include evidence (or predicted grades) of at least 96 UCAS Tariff points at Level 3 e.g. A Levels, BTEC National Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Essential – If you are presently completing a Level 3 apprenticeship you must have been through your End Point Assessment and be released from your present training provider by Aug 2024.
  • Essential – eligibility to be funded as an apprentice as set out within the ESFA’s Funding Rules.
  • Passion for Engineering Solutions  
  • Essential - Evidence of Level 2 qualifications e.g. GCSEs in 4 subjects including English at Grade C/4 and Maths at Grade B/5 and or above, Functional Skills, or ESFA-approved equivalents
  • A significant amount of relevant experience may also be considered in the absence of Level 3 qualifications, if you can demonstrate the ability to manage university-level study.
  • You will enjoy working with other people
  • Enthusiasm to learn
  • You will need to be comfortable with Maths and Physics as engineering is built on these subjects
  • New ideas to help us innovate and work better

Flexibility – The role is essentially site based and whilst there may be periods when attendance at an office, (Either MWH or a Clients), the need to commute anywhere within the Severn Trent region on a daily basis or on occasion lodge locally to a place of work is a requirement of the role.

Strong communication skills – both written and verbal are essential, and you must be able to work well within a team and independently.

Strong work ethic - self – motivated, flexible and reliable with good problem-solving skills. You will also have a strong client service focus and excellent organisational skills with the ability to multi-task.

Excellent computer skills - a good understanding of Microsoft Office are essential.

Curiosity - a natural curiosity regarding how things work, is desirable characteristic common to all commissioning engineers

What Qualifications will you be studying towards;

Level 4 Civil Engineering Senior Technician followed by advanced entry onto the Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering at Anglia Ruskin University, Peterborough campus.

You will also work regularly and diligently towards the Incorporated Civil Engineer (IEng MICE) professional qualification, in accordance with your ICE Training Agreement within a suitable time as agreed with your Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) and Line Manager.
