We have one 3-year fixed term vacancy on the Dalry site within our Vitamin B5 manufacturing facility.
The role of the (Graduate) Chemist is to assist in providing analytical technical guidance and to support trouble shooting on plant performance issues to achieve targets for planning, output, yield, production cost, quality consistent with SHEQ regulations and requirements within a defined area of the production plant.
The role also ensures that the operating documentation is current and sufficient to allow the plant to operate within SHEQ requirements and maintain Key Operating Parameters within the operating window. You will also provide technical guidance and plant knowledge to improvement projects and work with relevant project teams on design and implementation.

Ensure installations are under control and managed in a technically sound, safe and environmentally acceptable manner, complying with local legislation and regulations as well as DSM requirements.
Maintaining installations in proper operating condition in order to minimise loss of productivity and maximise availability and efficiency.
To ensure adherence to the specific guidelines and regulations with regard to quantity, quality, environment and safety.
Monitoring the quality, throughput, results of analysis, equipment performance and quality of outputs.
Design and carry out laboratory investigations to assist in defining solutions to performance killers and cost drivers.
Ability to operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
Maintaining up to date documentation in the laboratory area (eg, analytical methods, COSHH, manual handling assessments, risk assessments etc)
Analyse plant performance data, identify solutions and propose modified operation parameters and procedures for operate plant to optimise site performance for SHEQ, cost, yield and supply.
Use existing and or develop tools to collate and analyse data for asset utilisation and process monitoring purposes.
Investigating incidents, deviations in quality or disruptions in the process. Implementing agreed corrective actions and preventive actions.
Directing the Technical Team and supporting the Operations Team to resolve plant related problems when required.
Driving continuous improvement in Safety, Health, Environment, Quality, Reliability and Efficiency.
Assisting in the preparation of information required by government agencies (SEPA, HSE etc).
Developing improvement proposals, gaining required approval and then project managing the implementation via the management of change process.
Qualifications and Skills:
Graduate (honours level) understanding of Chemistry related discipline,
Experience of process development, analytical techniques and good laboratory practice.
Experience of working in a validated environment and of a research and development environment.
Excellent understanding of chemical process safety and systems.
Ability to apply a high attention to detail with high accuracy.
Strong project management skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
Successful candidates will have a relevant Honours Degree in Chemistry or a related Chemistry discipline by the start date of August 2021. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to apply key skills required for the role e.g. technical discipline knowledge, analytical laboratory operations and techniques, project management, planning, problem solving safety management. Other key management skills include good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills. Candidates will be required to work towards Chartered Status within their technical discipline.
