Founded in 2015, KCL Womxn in STEM (WiSTEM) is a student-led society which strives to empower female and non-binary students studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees at King's College London.
With over 440 members from 58 countries, KCL WiSTEM aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for its members. Our mission is to foster a supportive community where young womxn are encouraged to develop the STEM-based skills that drive innovation, and provide opportunities for their personal and professional growth.
We hold a range of workshops, presentations, and networking events to facilitate the professional development of our members, while hosting well-being events such as paint & sips to provide a relaxed space for members to connect.
Our mentorship, student ambassador, and schools outreach programmes also provide opportunities for members to develop holistically.
Our mentorship programme is a 1-1 scheme that pairs WiSTEM members at King's with a professional in their field of interest. The scheme runs from October to March, with the society providing mentors and mentees with resources to facilitate the mentoring relationship. WiSTEM also holds events throughout the scheme for mentors and mentees to create meaningful connections.

A platform to connect the WiSTEM committee with highly engaged members, the programme encourages student ambassadors to promote WiSTEM events and initiatives among their peers, and provides them with the opportunity to pitch and work with WiSTEM on STEM Outreach initiatives and events. Each ambassador is also given committee-led training sessions in management, marketing, and event coordination to broaden their skillset and glimpse into how they can run initiatives on their own.
The WiSTEM Schools Outreach programme was created with the aim of promoting STEM amongst young girls in Years 8-11. WiSTEM members participate in the programme as volunteers to deliver workshops and presentations relating to basic coding concepts, CAD and 3D modelling, and different STEM career pathways.
The programme received great feedback from students, with 96% stating they had an improved understanding of STEM as a result of the workshops. Volunteers also noted improvements in their confidence in public speaking and leadership abilities.
Our International Women’s Day event, "A Decade in Action: Celebrating KCL Womxn in STEM” celebrated the close of our 2024/25 Mentorship Scheme and marked our 10 year anniversary as a society. The evening was one of reflection and connection, with attendees looking back upon key milestones from the past year of WiSTEM and hearing from participants in our mentorship, schools outreach, and ambassador programmes.
Elysian - KCL STEM Ball 2025 was the biggest cross-society collaboration among STEM societies at King’s, with 15 societies and 2 faculties involved in making it possible. Having sold out in under 4 hours, this highly anticipated event had over 340 students from across STEM disciplines join together for a night of music, dancing, and conversation. Set to return in 2026, students are encouraged to keep an eye out for updates via WiSTEM Instagram.

Our Galentine’s Day Paint & Sip was an afternoon of relaxed conversation among WiSTEM members. It provided members with an outlet to meet fellow students and bond over creative expression.
Our collaboration with the UKC Womxn in STEM society aimed to connect students with similar career interests with a twist. The time-bound conversations led students to find interesting similarities, and helped alleviate the pressure around networking with others. KCL WiSTEM members found great enjoyment in meeting with UKC members, and roaming around Canterbury was a cherry on top.
