Hello! We are Env Soc, the academic society for the School of Environmental Sciences, inclusive to all courses within the school as well as anyone else that shares an interest in the environment!
Our society allows you to meet many like-minded people across all courses in ENV as well as anyone passionate about the environment. Membership with us gets you involved in all our socials, talks, debates, nights out, the winter and summer Balls, the summer BBQ and more!
We received support from Force of Nature, an environmental charity looking to support people in an effort to host meaningful conversations around the world and galvanise community action, to host our first ever Climate Café at UEA.
The event was a success and both members and non-members attended and contributed to meaningful discussions about the climate crisis, and we are looking forward to hosting more climate cafés into the future.
At the start of the year we ran a Meet and Greet Picnic for new members to get to know each other and the new committee.
We met outside by the picturesque late on the UEA campus and spent the evening getting to know each other.
Every year Env Soc runs a Tacky Tourist-themed Bar Crawl through Norwich, with discounts and exclusive deals at venues such as Revs, Karma and All Bar One.
This event helps new students at UEA get to know the city and the best bars around, while also allowing members to get to know each other and the committee better.
We had a pub quiz night in collaboration with UEA Dev Soc at a local pub, where members of both societies went head-to-head answering rounds of both Environmental and International Development questions, as well as some general knowledge rounds.
We hosted our first ever Climate Café in collaboration with Force of Nature to help provide a safe space for members and non-members to talk about the climate crisis and any climate anxiety they may have, as well as providing information about where to get more information and support.
Our annual Winter Ball was very popular as always, with a 2-course meal, free glass of bubbly, drinks vouchers at Mr Postles’ Apothecary and reduced cocktails all included in tickets.
Members dressed in fancy formal dress and had a festive night in the centre of Norwich.
