The ARU STEM Society is a group of engineers, scientists, innovators and dreamers who live on the principles of consistent learning, collaboration, application and initiative. Founded in 2022, we run periodic programs such as conferences, workshops, and hackathons to build our members technically and creatively, while also developing their personal and professional network.
We welcome people from all backgrounds. Irrespective of who you are, if you believe in the power of STEM and People to influence society positively, then we believe in you. Thank you for visiting our page!
Our core values are:
Hack-a-ton 25 (Fall Edition) successfully united more than 80 participants from a range of universities and academic disciplines for two days of innovation, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. The event fulfilled its core objective of encouraging initiative and interdisciplinary teamwork among students, while also strengthening connections with key academic and industry partners.
Held over two days, Hack-a-ton 25 (Fall Edition) challenged participants to develop innovative solutions to real-world issues across four specialised competition tracks:
The event featured pre-event virtual workshops, on-site guest lectures, and a structured pitching process before a panel of ten judges from academia and industry. Participants formed nine teams, with seven presenting final solutions on Day 2.
These collaborations extended the reach and relevance of the hackathon across multiple faculties and disciplines.
Hack-a-ton 25 achieved strong outcomes across academic engagement, professional development, and industry collaboration. Key success indicators include:

We visited BAE Systems' Facility in Great Baddow, Chelmsford, where we took a tour around their facilities and learned about various technologies, including drone development, material analysis and RADAR.
We attended a RADAR talk from Gary Cousins, Chief Engineer in Defence at BAE Systems, and a "Starry Night" Lecture/Social event, where Astrophysicist Mark Gallaway gave a lecture, we got to observe state-of-the art star observation equipment, and we got to see live samples of different planets and other extraterrestrial bodies.
The IMechE x ARU STEM Society Debate Session was successfully delivered on 25th March 2026 as a pilot initiative aimed at fostering public speaking, critical thinking, and professional engagement among engineering students.
Despite minor logistical challenges typical of a first-time event, the session achieved strong participation, high satisfaction levels, and meaningful integration between students and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Eastern Region.
With approximately 30–35 attendees and a distinguished panel of five judges - including senior IMechE representatives and ARU faculty - the event created a vibrant and intellectually engaging environment. The session successfully met its primary objective of encouraging students to engage with IMechE, with direct invitations extended for student affiliate membership.
The debate was designed around four thematic tracks:
Participation
Engagement
IMechE Integration
Student Development
Feedback from judges was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting:
