How to use Gradcracker’s Company Hubs to your best advantage

Within Gradcracker’s company hubs, you can find everything you need to know about an employer before you apply to their opportunities. Don’t know where to begin? I’ve put together a step-by-step guide on how to get the most out of the company hubs on Gradcracker.

When you land on a company hub from the Employer A-Z, you will find a short summary of the company, a guide to who they typically recruit, and several facts that you should find interesting. This introduces you to the employer before you start exploring other pages within the hub.

Alternatively, if you’ve come from the Job Search, you may land straight on an opportunity listing – which are advertised under the ‘Placements/Internships’ and ‘Graduate Jobs’ tabs. It’s important that you read the job description thoroughly to understand what the job will involve and what the requirements are. From this, you can discern whether the role is right for you and what makes you a good candidate.

Save and Follow

I recommend saving the job to your shortlist so that you can refer back to the job description (even when the listing is taken down). Doing this will also help you keep track of your application as you move through the various stages of the recruitment process.

If the company doesn’t have any jobs live, you can get an idea of when they’re going to open their opportunities on the ‘Placements/Internships’ and ‘Graduate Jobs’ pages. Click the ‘Follow’ button to receive job alerts the moment the employer’s opportunities go live.

Research

Before you apply to an opportunity, you’ll need to have a strong understanding of the company, and the ‘Profile’ page is a good place to start. Here, you’ll find basic information about the company – both as a business and as a graduate employer. After reading this, you can begin to determine whether the company is a good fit for you. Are you interested in the type of work it does, or the sectors that it operates in, and would working there fit into your career aspirations?

You can build on your knowledge by visiting the company’s additional pages, which can include projects, company values, benefits, diversity & inclusion and sustainability. With that said, these pages can cover almost anything – but whatever the content, it will always be relevant to your application. Consider how you align with their values; which of their projects you are particularly interested in, and in what ways you support or are inspired by their initiatives. This will help you to further determine whether you are a good fit for the company – and why.

Watch and listen

If the employer has taken part in a live webinar or Insight Day with us, they will also have ‘GC Webinar’ and/or ‘GC Insight’ pages within their hub. Watch the videos and listen to the podcasts from these events to hear our discussions with the company’s recruiters, recent interns and graduates. This will give you an exclusive insight into the company, its opportunities and its application process. Recruiters love to hear that you’ve gone the extra mile by watching these behind-the-scenes clips – and you’ll be sure to pick up some valuable career advice along the way.

Another way to hear from the company’s employees is by visiting the ‘Our People’ page, which features employee profiles in the form of blogs and/or videos. This content gives you an insight into the background of existing graduates, along with the type of work they do and the projects they have been involved in; training and development opportunities they’ve undertaken; the social side of work and so on. By learning of their experiences, you can discover what life is really like there, and start to imagine what your own journey with the company might look like.

Stay up to date

Last but by no means least, you can make sure your knowledge on the company is up to date by keeping an eye on the ‘Videos’ and ‘Blogs’ pages. These are regularly updated with the employer’s latest news and content. If you find something that interests you or that you’d like to learn more about, be sure to mention it during the application process; this will show that you have a genuine interest in the company and what it’s doing at that moment in time. Some of this content may also be advice-based which, because it’s specific to the employer, will be extremely useful when going through the application process or starting the job.

So, that is how you can utilise the content within a company hub. An employer won’t expect you to know the information inside out, but it’s a good idea to pick out the parts that particularly interest you. This will show that you’ve done your research and give you something to talk about with your recruiters. Good luck!
