About Roku

Founded by Anthony Wood, Roku pioneered streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the streaming platform that connects and benefits the entire TV ecosystem around the world. Today, Roku streaming devices are used by millions of consumers in North America, Latin America, and parts of Europe. We connect users to the streaming content they love, we enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and we provide advertisers with sophisticated tools to reach and engage consumers. Roku is the No. 1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico by hours streamed (Hypothesis Group, December 2022).

Roku operating system

The Roku operating system (OS) powers our streaming players and Roku TV models and is the foundation of our platform. The Roku OS is purpose-built for TV and is updated across our global installed base on an ongoing basis to deliver an exceptional user experience.

From the Roku home screen, our users can easily find and access a broad selection free and paid movies and TV episodes, as well as live TV, news, sports, hit movies, popular shows, and more, that are available from the thousands of channels on our streaming platform. Additionally, Roku’s powerful universal search capabilities make it simple for our users to find the entertainment they are looking for.

Roku channel

The Roku Channel is a top streaming channel owned and operated by Roku, providing consumers with free, ad-supported content. It contains a broad variety of always-changing content* that consists of free movies, shows, kids, entertainment, Roku Originals and more – for free. The Roku Channel is available to consumers in the UK on Roku streaming devices, Sky Q and Sky Now.

Roku streaming players

Our streaming players enable consumers to easily and affordably turn any TV into an outstanding streaming experience. The Roku OS powers Roku players, Roku® Streaming Sticks®, and Roku® Streambars®. Roku streaming players provide an incredible TV experience and access to a variety of content and value.

Roku TV™

Roku TV models, manufactured by Roku and its OEM partners around the world, use Roku’s purpose-built OS and TV hardware reference designs. Roku-branded and co-branded TV models are available through direct sales at major retailers, along with licensing arrangements with TV brands and pay TV operators in North America, the United Kingdom, and Latin America.

Roku channel store

The Roku channel store offers thousands of streaming channels from both global and local content providers. A dedicated Roku channel store is offered in each country where our devices are available.
