David

Design Engineer, graduate in Mechanical Engineering

Tell us why you love working at Slipstream Design?

Big enough to get exposure to a huge breadth in engineering. Small enough to make a major difference. I love working with my colleagues and each and everyone of them are amazing people and amazing engineers. It is an environment that facilitates innovation and a company that produces engineered products that we are proud to be involved with.

If you had 5 minutes to sell a graduate job at Slipstream Design to someone what would you say?

If you want a real engineering job, then a graduate role is an exceptional opportunity to get direct hands-on real experience in engineering. The work is not siloed. You will be embedded in a close knit team making real engineering decisions that have a real impact on projects. You will be dealing directly with the chief engineers of major companies who - graduates of their own firms don’t get the same opportunity. Your capability as a professional engineer will grow rapidly on joining and you will likely lead your own projects soon after starting. These are opportunities that small consultancies like ours can offer that are not offered by larger employers.

What's great about the technology you get to work with?

Naturally working in Research & Development means that we get to work with cutting edge ideas at the forefront of modern engineering, ranging from research institutions to next generation projects with some of the biggest names in engineering. You will be placed years ahead of the engineering curve as we work as innovators and enablers on behalf of our customers. We have access to the latest engineering software tools, a high spec. engineering test lab with the latest test equipment and access to next generation prototype hardware (RFSoC), sometimes before general release.

What makes you proud to work at Slipstream Design?

Working among some of the brightest minds in the RF engineering industry where you have the opportunity to make a direct input on some of the most important projects in aerospace, telecoms, and radar. Knowing that somewhere in the world the good work that you have done is being used to make the world a better place.

What have you learned since joining Slipstream Design? Any specific training you've received?

Since starting at Slipstream Design, I have learnt to think as a practical engineer over being a purely academic one. Both skills are important. I have been trained in assessing PCB quality (IPC 610 training), been given management training and project management training.
