Your role

As a Mechanical Engineering placement student, you'll get to work in diverse teams across all of our markets. We'll trust and support you to work where your interests lie. You could work on a variety of projects, including airports, railway stations, nuclear power stations or offshore wind farms. From design to analysis, manufacturing and maintenance challenges, your contribution will make a difference. You'll be able to point to your projects and say, "I helped make that happen."

Where you could work

As a placement student, you could find yourself in one of the following business areas:

  • Aerospace, Defence, Security & Technology (ADS&T)
    Industrial placement locations: Bristol, Glasgow
    Degree requirements: On track to achieve a minimum of a 2.2 Master’s/MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Marine/Naval Engineering, Integrated Mechanical & Electrical Engineering

ADS&T is the team that works across mission-critical industries to exploit cutting-edge advanced technology across aerospace and defence markets, helping clients respond innovatively to evolving external environments.  We're maintaining our Defence sector's resilience, transforming aerospace, and keeping transport systems running safely. ADS&T work with leading names to transform the future of aerospace engineering and support our national defence Programmes across all domains: land, sea, air, maritime and cyber.

You could work on an international airport, a local transport interchange, a nuclear power station or a university campus. Across Cities & Development, Energy, Transportation, Water or Environment, you'll decide where you'd like your career to go.

Join the teams that have been engineering, delivering, managing and decommissioning nuclear facilities worldwide for over 20 years. You'll work on new builds like Hinkley Point C and on-site engineering for clients such as EDF. We're driving evolution in the areas of offshore generation and transmission, energy from waste, electric vehicle infrastructure and the integration of smart grid technology. With us, you'll play a proud part in reaching net-zero by 2050.

We have worked on thousands of global installations and can give you unparalleled exposure across, fixed and floating offshore structures, terminals, refineries, petrochemical plants and subsea pipelines. Using innovative and immersive technologies, you'll develop your skillset to work on complex challenges, helping governments and corporations solve problems sustainably and make mission-critical decisions with confidence

Your role

Join us as a Mechanical Engineering placement student and enjoy exposure to a wide variety of industries, clients and projects. As one of the team, you'll own your projects, designing, integrating, and managing complex design solutions over their lifecycles. Your work could involve the latest electric aircraft engines, defence communication systems, submarine powerplants, nuclear facilities, satellite structures or flying taxis. Whatever your passion, you will be joining a high-end engineering team working on groundbreaking projects. And while you're shaping a safer, happier, more sustainable world, we’ll support you in your development.

You'll have the opportunity to develop skills within various engineering capabilities, including classical and finite element stress analysis of composite and metallic components, systems engineering, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis through to composite and metallic design.
