Working as a software engineer at AFRY

Nima, a recently graduated software engineer, tells us why he enjoys working at AFRY, and what he likes about using Java.

Hi Nima! Tell us, why did you choose to join AFRY?

What attracted me the most was the warmth I received from the department and the colleagues during our first contact. We have a lot of social and similar activities. Since this is my first job after graduation I also felt like it was important that the company that hired me had strong ethical and sustainable values and good cohesion between colleagues.

These are all attributes that AFRY has proved that they offer. My boss, Toni Risteski, is also a big reason why I chose AFRY as he gave me the impression of being responsive, attentive and very good at his job!

What do you enjoy the most about working as a consultant through AFRY?

The consultancy role itself is interesting since there are always new challenges around the corner and the risk of being stuck in an unfulfilling position is slim. It is important to me that the work I do is rewarding, and by not being bound to a specific role or product I can focus on my professional development.

AFRY enhances this by putting a lot of effort on developing my skills based on market demands crossed with my personal interests, and always being sure that the current assignment is something that fits my needs, and that I enjoy the assignment.

Among other programming languages, you use Java. What do you like about Java?

The first thing that springs to mind is that the language reads like prose! This has allowed me to jump in, read and understand existing projects in new assignments without major issues. It is well established, well documented and powers millions of devices. It is also very easy to debug.

What do you look forward to?

I've recently started a new assignment and we're going to start a new project which is going to entail a user base of a hundred thousand users. I'm excited to take care of a domain like this where scalability and reliability are the major factors. At the same time, I'm going to be learning a lot of front-end technologies and principles which is something I've wanted more experience with.
