Purpose & Scope of the Role

Shape the future of sustainable buildings and masterplans with a consultancy that combines local delivery with global backing.

Join Tetra Tech’s Sustainable Building Design team and help inform the design and construction of environmentally conscious buildings and masterplans. You’ll work with architects, engineers, clients and wider stakeholders on energy assessments, embodied carbon studies, circular economy strategies and sustainability frameworks including BREEAM, WELL and DREAM.

This is a graduate role with exposure to ground-breaking projects, structured development, mentoring, Chartership support and early careers networking.

Your Impact in this position

You’ll support clients to achieve their sustainability goals by contributing to energy modelling, life cycle assessment, material and technology research, renewable energy opportunities and sustainability reporting. Your input will help improve building performance, reduce carbon and strengthen design decisions from concept through delivery.

Five Core Capabilities

  • Sustainable Design Integration – Work collaboratively to embed sustainable principles into project designs and support environmentally responsive outcomes.
  • Energy and Carbon Analysis – Use energy modelling and life cycle assessment to improve energy performance and reduce embodied carbon.
  • Certification Support – Assist assessors with BREEAM, WELL and DREAM certification work.
  • Innovation and Resource Efficiency – Identify low-carbon materials, renewable energy opportunities and circular economy strategies.
  • Reporting and Stakeholder Communication – Prepare reports, planning submissions and presentations, while advising clients and multidisciplinary teams clearly and professionally.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

A minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in architecture, architectural engineering, building services, renewable energy, sustainable design or a related discipline (MEng or MSc) is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential; AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Cloud and energy modelling tools such as IES, Tas, EnergyPlus or DesignBuilder are desirable. Strong communication, teamwork, sustainability awareness and suitability for security clearance are required.

Working Environment

Based in Manchester, Leeds or Edinburgh, with collaboration across teams and offices as needed. This role supports hybrid working, with expected time in the office and flexibility where project demands allow.

In alignment with the Equality Act 2010, we will make reasonable adjustments to support candidates and employees requiring additional arrangements. This could include adaptations to work schedules, training approaches, or the physical workspace. Please inform us if you need any accommodations during the recruitment process or in your day-to-day role.
