I am currently on the industrial placement in the technical team here at Newport. Whilst starting as a process support engineer I have been given the opportunity to mold my role to suit my preferences and goals whilst still meeting the business needs.
After completing my initial training I was quickly involved in multiple projects spanning many disciplines of engineering. Although I study Chemical engineering at university I have found great interest learning about other sectors including environmental engineering. Over the last eight months I feel my skill set has grown massively with the help of everyone around me not just those in the immediate team, from learning how to present my findings in front of technical specialists to investigating our process and pitching new ideas/projects.
I have enjoyed working on manufacturing investigations with a cross disciplined global team, many smaller and some day to day roles, and even starting my own project to improve our environmental impact. The teams involved have always been willing to give as much support as I require but allowing me to take on the responsibility of the work I carry out.
I have always felt welcomed by those on site and the support is always there when you ask for it. If you are looking for a placement with real responsibility, then I would encourage anyone to apply.
