Commonly known as the Capital of the Cotswolds, Cirencester is a lovely and welcoming market town with a fascinating history.
Based in the heart of the Cotswolds, Cirencester is a great town to visit and explore. Although it has easy access to major road networks and mainline railway, Cirencester's character remains charming and peaceful. It's located within an hour of Oxford and Bristol and within half an hour of Gloucester and Cheltenham.
Cirencester, known as ‘Corinium Dobunnorum’, was the second largest town only to London in Roman times. The Saxons destroyed the town during the 6th century and it was renamed ‘Coryn Ceasre’.
During the medieval period, it became a prosperous wool town with ancient honey coloured stone buildings in picturesque narrow streets that you can visit today.
