“I completed my Masters in Chemical Engineering at Cambridge University before starting at Chartwell in September 2021.
I’ve always enjoyed variety in my life, from the subjects I studied to the sports I play, so the breadth of industries and locations of Chartwell projects really appealed to me. With this job, I get to travel to new countries, marvel at the processes behind the products we take for granted and solve technical problems with people from a range of backgrounds.
Outside of work, I enjoy baking, playing ultimate frisbee, going to the theatre and sight-seeing near my project locations.”
“The biggest driver for my development has been the balance of responsibility and support I have received at Chartwell. From day one, I was in charge of my own workstream, identifying improvement opportunities in a process and implementing actions with the client team to realise that improvement.
To help all the consultants thrive under this, there is a strong focus on development at Chartwell, with structured support systems, continuous open feedback, regular trainings and coaching sessions. You are constantly given opportunities to step outside your comfort zone either through projects in new industries or leading larger client teams or later on, being responsible for the development of others.
In addition, working with a range of client teams allows you to develop the interpersonal skills that help with communication and project management.”
“It is difficult to describe a typical week as every project is different. Normally, as soon as you arrive on site on Monday morning, it is all hands on deck reviewing your personal and project goals for the week before meeting with the client team to go through performance over the weekend and the plan for the week.
Day-to-day activities vary but there are normally morning production meetings to review progress and drive actions. Lots of time is spent on the line to further understand the process by recording downtime, running trials or observing failures. There will be some time spent analysing the data captured, prioritising opportunities to target and taking actions to implement those opportunities through problem-solving, changes to machinery or updates to operating manuals.
Evenings typically involve dinner with my colleagues, exercise and admin. We fly back home on Thursday evenings. Fridays are either in person for trainings and presentations, or remote to allow inter-office collaboration on internal tasks.”
