Officers apply their specialist skills to analyse the content of communications, identifying tactical and strategic intelligence which drives the Agency’s response to serious organised crime.

Job description

Officers are responsible for the covert collection and analysis of criminal communications. The unique and critical insight provided by intercept means that Officers are at the forefront of tackling the threat from Serious and Organised Crime, providing the intelligence obtained from intercepted communications to operational teams to effect arrests, the seizure of money, drugs and firearms and prevent loss of life.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Intelligence Development - To contribute to the acquisition and development of tactical and strategic intelligence relating to serious and organised crime affecting the UK within a dynamic environment. To conduct intelligence development, research and analysis in support of the National Crime Agency’s Annual Plan, National Control Strategy and other identified priorities in the fight to cut serious and organised crime. To work collaboratively with the NCA operations teams and partners to deliver a unified crime fighting response to serious and organised crime.
  • Shift work - To work shifts to provide a service which delivers dynamic support to NCA and partner operations.
  • Operational Support - To provide fast paced operational support to the Agency by gathering, analysing and disseminating intercept intelligence in accordance with legislation and policy. To draft and submit Warranty and Communications Data applications, as required, for the purpose of intelligence gathering.
  • Risk Management - To identify, prioritise and manage risk in accordance with legislation and policy.
  • Sensitive Intelligence - To ensure the quality, secure handling and dissemination of intelligence, maintaining confidentiality, sensitivity and a duty of care in line with Agency policy.
  • Stakeholder engagement - To build good working relationships with both internal and external partners including police forces and other government agencies.

On-call working:

Alternate weeks (Monday-Friday) of earlies and lates - Earlies 06:00-14:30, Lates 13:30-22:00.

Weekend attendance 1 in 4 which will be a combination of earlies, lates and mid-day (10:00-18:00). On-call no more than 1 week in 6.

To note: The On-Call Rota is subject to review based on service needs.

Vetting requirements - DV Enhanced STRAP

The requirement for DV Enhanced clearance is to have been present in the UK for at least 7 of the last 10 years. Failure to meet the residency requirements will result in your security clearance application being rejected. 

Individuals will be required to undertake and pass a substance misuse test as part of pre-employment checks.

Benefits

Alongside your salary of £36,057, National Crime Agency contributes £10,445 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

New entrants to the NCA receive 26 days' annual leave, rising to 31 on completion of 5 years' continuous service, plus 8 bank holidays.

If qualifying criteria is met new joiners from UK Police Forces or the UK Intelligence Community (UKIC) will have service with those employers taken into account for continuous service purposes for annual leave entitlement only, this will be up to a maximum of 31 days leave (including 1 privilege day).
