Graduate Process Engineer

Process, Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing.

About Us

Ahlstrom is the global leader in combining fibres into innovative and sustainable specialty materials. We purify and protect, with every fibre, for a sustainable world.

About the Role

Ahlstrom - There's always a better way
Innovation comes from the heart at Ahlstrom. We’ll continue developing high-performance specialty materials that are safe and sustainable, and our fibre-based solutions will evolve with every challenge.

Ahlstrom’s Chirnside plant is seeking a motivated Graduate Process Engineer to join the Production team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a great opportunity for an engineering graduate to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, supporting process optimisation, system roll-outs, and continuous improvement.

As a Graduate Process Engineer, you will support the site’s ongoing improvement journey by contributing to both daily operations and strategic projects. Working closely with the Production Manager and cross-functional teams, you will help drive improvements across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Morale (SQCDM) through structured problem-solving and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and optimisation of manufacturing systems and digital tools
  • Analyse production data to improve efficiency and reduce waste
  • Assist with root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Morale (SQCDM) targets
  • Update process documentation and support standardisation
  • Work on projects delivering measurable performance improvements

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has a degree (or is nearing completion of a degree) in chemical, mechanical, process, or manufacturing engineering. The successful candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be an effective communicator who works well as part of a team. They will be proactive, organised, and eager to learn.

Manufacturing or industrial placement experience is desirable. An awareness of digital manufacturing or production data systems would also be advantageous.

Kick-start your engineering career with hands-on industry experience at Ahlstrom.
