About OCU Group

At OCU Group, we don’t just deliver infrastructure - we help power modern life.

As one of the UK’s fastest-growing utility and infrastructure businesses, we deliver complex, nationally critical projects across power, energy transition, water, telecoms, and digital infrastructure. Over the last five years, OCU has grown five-fold to a £1.1bn organisation, expanding both organically and through strategic acquisitions across the UK, Australia, New Zealand and India.

Our growth is driven by ambitious people, operational excellence, and a commitment to doing things properly. We work on projects that genuinely matter by supporting the UK’s energy transition, strengthening essential infrastructure, and helping build more sustainable communities for the future.

Whether you’re an experienced professional looking to take ownership of major projects and influence delivery at scale, or someone starting your career through an apprenticeship, graduate programme, or placement route, OCU offers real opportunity to grow, develop, and make an impact.

We are building a business where high performance, collaboration, innovation, and accountability sit at the centre of our culture. Our people are trusted to lead, encouraged to challenge thinking, and supported to continuously develop their skills and careers.

At OCU, you won’t just join a growing business, you’ll help shape it.

About the role

You'll play a key role in supporting OCU's Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) governance framework, helping to ensure the business operates in line with regulatory requirements, industry standards and internal policies. Based in either Borehamwood or Manchester, you'll work as part of our SHEQ team, supporting the systems, processes and assurance activities that underpin safe, compliant and sustainable operations across the organisation.

You'll gain exposure to a broad range of governance and compliance activities, working closely with operational teams, business leaders and SHEQ professionals to maintain and continuously improve management systems, policies and performance frameworks. You'll help ensure that SHEQ requirements are effectively embedded across the business, supporting consistency, accountability and best practice throughout our projects and operations.

As part of the role, you'll assist with internal audits, assurance reviews, compliance monitoring and management system administration. You'll help analyse SHEQ performance data, identify trends, support corrective action programmes and contribute to the development of reports, policies and governance documentation. You'll also gain valuable experience in supporting ISO management systems, regulatory compliance activities and the monitoring of key performance indicators that drive continual improvement.

Working across multiple business functions, you'll develop a strong understanding of risk management, corporate governance and assurance processes. The role will also involve occasional visits to operational and project sites, allowing you to understand how governance frameworks are implemented in practice and how effective assurance supports safe and successful project delivery.

As your skills and confidence grow, you'll take on increasing responsibility, develop strong stakeholder management and analytical skills, and become an important contributor to maintaining OCU's high standards of safety, compliance, environmental stewardship and operational excellence.

Perfect for

Graduates who are passionate about governance, risk management, compliance and continuous improvement. You'll be highly organised, analytical and detail-oriented, with strong communication skills and an interest in understanding how policies, systems and controls support safe and effective business operations.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys analysing information, reviewing processes and ensuring standards are consistently applied across a complex organisation. You'll be keen to develop expertise in SHEQ governance, assurance, auditing and compliance while working closely with operational teams and senior stakeholders.

You'll enjoy balancing data analysis, policy development and assurance activities, helping to strengthen business performance and support a culture of accountability, compliance and continual improvement.

Entry Requirements

You'll need (or be on track to achieve) a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Quality Management, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline with a minimum 2:2 classification.

Due to travel and support across various operational and project sites, a full UK driving licence is essential before starting the role.

An interest in health and safety, environmental management, quality systems or compliance through academic projects, placements or part-time employment would be advantageous.

Training Programme

Our 2 year Graduate Programme combines structured training with hands-on experience, giving you real responsibility from day one. You'll learn directly alongside industry experts in a collaborative, supportive environment. We invest in your continuous professional development, giving you the tools, confidence and clear progression path to build a long term career within OCU.
