At OCU Group, we don’t just deliver infrastructure - we help power modern life.
As one of the UK’s fastest-growing utility and infrastructure businesses, we deliver complex, nationally critical projects across power, energy transition, water, telecoms, and digital infrastructure. Over the last five years, OCU has grown five-fold to a £1.1bn organisation, expanding both organically and through strategic acquisitions across the UK, Australia, New Zealand and India.
Our growth is driven by ambitious people, operational excellence, and a commitment to doing things properly. We work on projects that genuinely matter by supporting the UK’s energy transition, strengthening essential infrastructure, and helping build more sustainable communities for the future.
Whether you’re an experienced professional looking to take ownership of major projects and influence delivery at scale, or someone starting your career through an apprenticeship, graduate programme, or placement route, OCU offers real opportunity to grow, develop, and make an impact.
We are building a business where high performance, collaboration, innovation, and accountability sit at the centre of our culture. Our people are trusted to lead, encouraged to challenge thinking, and supported to continuously develop their skills and careers.
At OCU, you won’t just join a growing business, you’ll help shape it.
You'll play a key role in supporting the design, development and delivery of civil engineering solutions across OCU's infrastructure and utility projects. Based in either Stockport or Leeds, you'll work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, helping to deliver projects that provide essential services and critical infrastructure for communities across Wales and the wider UK.
You'll gain exposure to a broad range of civil engineering activities, supporting projects from initial feasibility and design through to construction, commissioning and handover. Working alongside experienced engineers, project managers, operational teams and clients, you'll help develop engineering solutions, undertake technical assessments and support the successful delivery of projects that meet safety, quality, environmental and regulatory requirements.
As part of the role, you'll assist with engineering calculations, site surveys, technical reports, design reviews and project planning activities. You'll gain valuable experience across a range of infrastructure projects, including utility networks, civil structures, drainage systems, highways and associated construction works. You'll also develop an understanding of engineering standards, construction methodologies and project delivery processes while supporting the development of practical and sustainable engineering solutions.
The role will involve collaboration across both office and site environments, providing valuable hands-on experience and exposure to live construction and infrastructure projects. You'll have opportunities to work closely with operational teams and contractors, developing a strong understanding of how engineering designs are implemented in practice.
As your technical knowledge and confidence grow, you'll take on increasing responsibility, develop strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills, and become an important contributor to delivering infrastructure that supports communities and enhances essential services.
Graduates who are passionate about engineering, infrastructure and construction and want to develop a career delivering projects that have a lasting impact on communities. You'll be curious, analytical and eager to learn, with strong problem-solving skills and an interest in how engineering solutions are designed, constructed and maintained.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys applying technical knowledge to real-world challenges, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and seeing projects progress from concept through to completion. You'll be keen to develop your engineering expertise, communication skills and project delivery knowledge while working alongside experienced professionals on a variety of infrastructure projects.
You'll enjoy balancing technical design work with practical site experience, helping to deliver safe, sustainable and efficient infrastructure solutions that support the UK's utility and civil engineering networks.
You'll need (or be on track to achieve) a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related engineering discipline with a minimum 2:2 classification.
Due to the nature of the role and occasional travel between offices and project sites, a full UK driving licence would be beneficial.
Experience gained through academic projects, placements, internships or extracurricular activities involving civil engineering, infrastructure design, construction or project delivery would be advantageous.
Our 2 year Graduate Programme combines structured training with hands-on experience, giving you real responsibility from day one. You'll learn directly alongside industry experts in a collaborative, supportive environment. We invest in your continuous professional development, giving you the tools, confidence and clear progression path to build a long term career within OCU.
