Lawsons and Son started trading in 1921 at the Old Forge which had previously traded as the Merit Motor & Cycle Works. We were founded by Thomas Maltby Lawsons and his son “Jack” John Maltby Lawson.
The Old Forge is now better known as Lawsons Whetstone! From being a timber supplier the company extended into fencing contracting and supply. In 1952 Jack’s son John Lawson joined the company after being demobbed from the army.
John oversaw a period of expansion which included acquiring new sites as well as extending into the manufacture and supply of concrete fencing materials. John’s son Simon, our current Chairman, actually started his career at Lawsons working for Supreme Concrete.
Now in its 4th generation of family management, we are proud to say that Simon’s son Josh is already working in the business. Like his father and grandfather before him, he is gaining experience across a variety of roles which is giving him the knowledge and skills to contribute to the future direction and strategy of the business.
