Process Safety Engineer

Tell us a bit more about your journey at BOC, Linde

After graduating in Chemical Engineering from The University of Nottingham, I joined BOC’s 4-year IChemE accredited Graduate Engineering Programme.

My first role was as an Operations Engineer at BOC’s largest Upper-Tier COMAH Site in South Wales. There were three air separation units and a hydrogen plant onsite. This meant there were ample opportunities to learn, develop and support day to day site activities. I gained valuable experience from day one and was excited to pick up new skills every day!

My second role was as a Project Engineer. I was fortunate enough to work on high profile business projects which provided me with exposure to all aspects of the project life cycle. I liaised with multi-disciplinary engineers (Mechanical, Instruments, Process and Process Control) to ensure successful completion of projects.

I then was working as a Process Engineer. In this role, I applied fundamental Chemical Engineering principles to produce technical calculations that directly impacted projects. From mass and energy balances through to relief valve sizing, this role provided me with valuable experience!

My final graduate role was as a Process Safety Engineer. Here I was chairing HAZOP and LOPA workshops, supporting sites and Plant Managers with process safety action management and performing consequence modelling amongst many other duties! Following completion of the graduate scheme, I landed as a Process Safety Engineer. I really enjoy interacting with different disciplines and sites during risk review workshops in my current role!

I am grateful for the experiences and skills I’ve gained with BOC as I was able to achieve Chartered Chemical Engineer status earlier this year!
