I am in my 2nd year in Thales, working in the Research and Development (R&D) team in Belfast. The work I am doing is to look at new materials and manufacturing methods that can be used for future products.
In order to provide a competitive advantage, Thales needs to use up-to-date technologies and practices. Failure to capitalise on this will result in customers opting to take their business elsewhere. My role is important in this aspect as it is looking to the future, and developing an understanding of areas that Thales can choose to grow in.
I add to my team with the skills I have gained through my work experience and education. I bring enthusiasm and new ideas to this role, and work to keep these ideas grounded and realistic.
I joined Thales right after finishing university, where I studied a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering and Management.
I first found out about Thales on Gradcracker. I then asked around and searched for what Thales does before deciding to put my application in.
I have been with Thales for just over a year now, I spent my first year in Templecombe but am now in Belfast.
Throughout the graduate programme, I have been given opportunities to grow and develop in different areas of the business. Not only have I been able to grow old skills, but I have developed new skills and interests as well.
I have done various volunteering activities. I enjoyed my time working with Primary Engineer, where I was able to grade students’ entries for an engineering design competition. I also enjoyed volunteering at a local community centre/farm with a group of other early careers members doing all sorts of odd jobs. I always have felt a good sense of achievement after volunteering, and I have enjoyed it even more when I have been able to interact with people that it affects.
