I joined Caterpillar on the Global Procurement Graduate scheme. I’ve had a rotation in the cost management team, where I directly contributed to cost reduction activities. I’m currently in the global category management team where I work with our global supply base and visit their sites on a regular basis.
Through each rotation I’ve been given a high level of responsibility but have also been given support by the team around me so I can achieve the goals they have set for me. Over the last 12 months, I’ve achieved things that I never thought would be possible and I’ve directly been able to contribute to contribute to Caterpillar’s success.
My advice for a student looking for a graduate scheme is simply just apply! Here at Caterpillar, there are so many opportunities, and the Business does support your transition from university to full time work. It’s a great place to start your career and it provides you with a great foundation. I think that is proven by the fact that many of the managers & colleagues I work with started on the graduate scheme themselves and are still here with Caterpillar.
One of the benefits of being on the graduate scheme here at Caterpillar is being able to learn new skills each day. Whether it be through the management team or through the things you’ve learnt at university and are applying it here in the workplace. I’ve been really fortunate in the fact I’m currently working towards a Chartership in Procurement & Supply, which is further enhancing my skills in purchasing and is something I use every day and apply to my day job.
