One of the most interesting projects I’ve been involved in so far is my role as a Design Coordinator on the HS2 project. It’s incredibly exciting to be responsible for managing the design of four key assets, knowing they will soon be brought to life on one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects.
What makes this role so rewarding is the collaboration involved. I get to work with talented colleagues from across many disciplines within Mott MacDonald, ensuring that all aspects of the design align seamlessly. Additionally, I have the opportunity to interact with the client and third-party stakeholders, building strong working relationships and ensuring the designs meet the needs of everyone involved.
Seeing a project of this scale come together—from detailed design to physical construction—is truly inspiring and has been a highlight of my career so far.
In addition to my day job, I’ve been fortunate to take on several exciting external roles that allow me to give back to the industry and contribute to my local region. One highlight has been starting Building Equality in the West Midlands, where I now serve as the regional chair. This initiative focuses on promoting inclusion across the construction and rail industries, advocating for a workplace where everyone feels respected and valued. Mott MacDonald has been incredibly supportive of my work with Building Equality, recognising that fostering inclusion brings not only social value but also significant business benefits.
I’m also actively involved in the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Young Rail Professionals (YRP) committees. These roles have allowed me to develop my leadership and collaboration skills, while connecting with others who share my passion for shaping the future of our industry.

My team is one of the best parts of working at Mott MacDonald. We’re a diverse group of talented professionals who are genuinely supportive of one another. Working in the Rail team, I collaborate daily with colleagues across multiple disciplines, from structural and drainage engineers to environmental specialists, all contributing their expertise to deliver complex projects like HS2.
What stands out about my team is the culture of collaboration and inclusivity. Everyone is approachable and willing to share their knowledge, which has been invaluable in my development as a graduate civil engineer.

My favourite must be the annual Mott MacDonald Sports Day, which in 2024 was held in Cardiff. Offices from across the company come together to compete in a variety of sports, including football, netball, and tug-of-war. It’s always a great opportunity to showcase teamwork and have fun in a friendly, competitive environment.
What made it even more special is that, working on large infrastructure projects, we often collaborate with colleagues from around the world. Sports Day provides a rare chance to meet many of them in person, strengthening those relationships beyond virtual meetings. The event really highlights the inclusive and connected culture at Mott MacDonald and reinforces the sense of community across the company.
In my free time, I’ve recently taken up running and cycling, which have been great ways to stay active and challenge myself. I also enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee and exploring new places, whether it’s going on scenic walks or discovering hidden gems in the countryside.
One of my biggest passions, though, is live music. I love going to gigs and music festivals, experiencing everything from indie bands to techno DJs. There’s something special about the energy and connection of a live performance that I find inspiring and uplifting.
My inspiration comes from people who use their skills and passions to make a positive impact on the world. I’m particularly inspired by individuals who champion inclusion and diversity, both in the workplace and beyond, as well as those who strive to create sustainable solutions to global challenges.
Closer to home, I’ve been fortunate to work with colleagues and mentors who lead by example, demonstrating the importance of collaboration, resilience, and innovation in our industry. Seeing their dedication to delivering social value and improving communities motivates me to do the same in my own career.
