I was sure about what I wanted to work on, therefore I had chosen to study Master’s in building services. All the basics of relevant building services concepts were taught in my Master's. I have a clear and basic idea on how things work in the building services field. This helped me to learn about my tasks and concepts in my current job. I can easily try to understand how things are being worked out in practical work compared to the theory I had learned in my Master's.
I was always interested in building services since my Bachelor's. I was always attracted to the buildings we spend most of our time in our life, i.e., our home. I always wanted to build homes for others and make them sustainable as well so that they don’t harm the environment.
During my research on Mott MacDonald during my recruitment process, I came across various projects which had great solutions in building towards sustainability. This attracted me to explore further on these kinds of projects. Fortunately, I have got an opportunity to work on a project, where I am involved in the HVAC design and looking at sustainable solutions to achieve BREEAM Accreditation.
Three things that make me look forward to coming into work each day are:
My team has a fantastic set of Mechanical and Electrical engineers. We work as a MEP (Mechanical Electrical & Piping) team. We work on various building design projects which include the designing of HVAC, Public Health, and electrical services. We work a lot on government projects.
I had great support from my Line Manager. I had requested for site visits to see mechanical equipment working practically, and after a few days, I was given the opportunity to go on a site visit and explore the systems used at the site. I was also supported in arranging CPDs for my team by helping me to initiate talks with manufacturers.
My father is my inspiration. I always have seen him working hard for our family. He is the reason I developed an interest in mechanical engineering as he was a mechanical engineer too. He comes from a farming family, so he always used to teach us to respect food and nature. My father’s teachings are also one of the reasons I am interested in sustainability. I always wanted to be like him and carry on his values forward in my life.
