The role

Process engineering is the design and development of data acquisition, test and measurement, robotics and automation systems in early stages of product innovation that leads through to manufacturing.

An integral member of R&D, a Process Engineer plays a key role in bringing new products to the market. Graduate Process Engineers will rotate across different business Divisions gaining an understanding of LabVIEW and data acquisition system design and development.

During your time on the graduate scheme, you will rotate throughout different areas of business. Some examples of these rotations include but are not limited to:

  • Encoder Products Division (EPD): an opportunity to work in either Encoder readhead or scale design supporting the process development of new products. With volume manufacturing, tackle the problems faced in automation, data integrity and robust process control.
  • Machine tool Products Division (MPD): working in a dedicated process development team to support new product design or worldwide service test applications. Products vary from simple touch trigger probes to complex 3D scanning systems.
  • Coordinate Measuring Machines Division (CPD): design and develop equipment and software used in the development, testing and production of Coordinate Measuring Machine heads and probes.

Who are we looking for?

Graduates applying for this position should have studied in disciplines such as:

  • Mechatronics
  • Robotics and Automation
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Software Engineering
  • Communications Engineering

Candidates from other engineering disciplines are also considered and are expected to show strong interest in programming.

You will need: 

  • the ability to learn new programming languages
  • be able to work well as part of a team to achieve common objectives
  • a high standard of verbal and written communication for technical information
  • a basic understanding of product lifecycle and manufacturing techniques
  • knowledge in other programming languages are welcome (C, C#, Python, SQL, etc.)

Promotion in this stream can lead to more senior positions within a product division. Upon successfully finishing the scheme, Process Engineering Graduates will take on permanent roles in product development, process development, process improvement and assembly development.

What you will gain

Depending on your specialism, Process Engineering Graduate will develop an understanding of:

  • Data acquisition system design and development
  • Application development through LabVIEW
  • PLC / Robot Programming (Mitsubishi/Siemens/KUKA)
  • Machine vision
  • Motion control
  • Six Sigma for statistical process control.
