Degree subject: Computer Science
University studied at: Newcastle University
What first led me to Sky was how staff who came to my careers fair seemed genuinely excited about their work, which was really unexpected for such a big company. I had always been interested in technology and since studying computer science at university, realised it was the career path I wanted to take.
Since joining Sky this summer I’ve been involved in so many events I can barely keep track of all of them! I’ve been out at conferences, open days, assessment centres, the works. On a daily basis though, I’ve been involved with several on-going projects and am learning new languages, skills, and techniques every day. I’m keen to try more and more projects and see more of what Sky has to offer, as the work is far more varied than I expected.
My advice to potential candidates is to not wait until summer to start looking for jobs. The sooner you get to know which opportunities are available, the sooner you’ll be able to figure out which ones are best for you, and get applying! Don’t worry about not having the experience or skills to take on a graduate role, everyone else will be in the same boat and employers are aware of this and will train you up.
