George Osmond

Graduate Scheme

I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2020 with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on electrical infrastructure, motors and HV equipment, joining the Perenco graduate scheme in September 2020.

The Perenco Graduate scheme is a great opportunity to put into practice some of the concepts taught during my degree. Whilst also being able to get hands on experience, with site-based placements and working alongside the trained technicians and other discipline engineers.

During my time on the graduate scheme, I had a variety of placements from office-based operations support in Norwich, on site maintenance support at the Dimlington Terminal, and on-site projects team at the UK’s ‘hidden oilfield’ at Wytch Farm, Dorset. Each placement helped me to develop both technical skills gained during my degree, but also soft skills that are needed in a busy work environment. Working alongside technicians and engineers on site to prepare for the well drilling programme at Wytch Farm and problem-solving during outages related to the vast electrical network.

Now out of the scheme I work alongside a team of electrical engineers providing day to day operations and maintenance support to all our offshore gas assets and onshore gas terminals. Dealing with equipment faults, maintenance requirements and infrastructure management, to ensure that all assets are running safely and efficiently.

The best part about Perenco is the ability to get stuck in and work with a large team of engineers, spanning multiple disciplines on exciting projects, on assets that are part of the UK national critical infrastructure.
